Rubber
“Rubber” refers to a highly elastic substance made from the latex of certain plants, such as the rubber tree, or synthesized artificially. It is commonly used to make products like tires, shoes, gloves, and elastic bands due to its flexibility, durability, and water resistance. Rubber can be natural or synthetic, with synthetic rubber often being used in industrial applications.
Myanmar has emerged as a significant player in Southeast Asia’s rubber industry. Rubber production is one of the country’s key agricultural sectors, contributing to its economic growth. Myanmar primarily cultivates natural rubber, particularly from the Hevea Brasiliensis tree, which thrives in the country’s tropical and subtropical regions.
Myanmar exports natural rubber to several countries, primarily in Asia. Key markets include China, Malaysia, Thailand, and India, with China being the largest buyer. The proximity to these countries provides Myanmar with a logistical advantage, particularly through land border trade.
Rubber export value in 2022-23 fiscal year was more than 100,000 tonnes. We expect to export around 300,000 tonnes of rubber in 2023-24 fiscal year.
